Melissa Steinrock was promoted to Keane’s General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer effective May 20, 2019. Leading Keane’s Compliance team, Melissa provides clients with strategic guidance, interpretation, and expert analysis of legislative and regulatory requirements across the ever-changing unclaimed property compliance landscape. Melissa has been with Keane since December, 2012, serving as General Counsel, Deputy General Counsel, President of Keane Financial, LLC and Assistant General Counsel.
In her experience as Assistant General Counsel, working primarily with our Legal Claimant Services division, Melissa was integral establishing our legal requirements and ensuring completion of the trusts and estates work necessary to recover and protect assets at risk of escheatment. Since 2013, Melissa has also had primary responsibility for and oversight of our client contracts; including negotiation of key provisions. As Keane’s Deputy General Counsel, Melissa continued her contracts role, provided guidance regarding owner location processes, policies and procedures, as well as general legal counsel on corporate matters. Since 2016, Melissa also served as President of our broker-dealer subsidiary, Keane Financial, LLC.
In her tenure, Melissa has demonstrated her expertise in a variety of legal and unclaimed property scenarios, guiding individuals and corporations through complex legal and compliance issues. She also skillfully assess legal and legislative changes to ensure compliance with states’ unclaimed property laws.
Melissa holds a Juris Doctor degree (J.D.) from St. John’s University School of Law and Bachelors of Science degree in Communications from New York University.
