With nearly a decade of audit and consulting experience specializing in state and local tax, Gary brings with him to Keane a wide range of skills regarding unclaimed property compliance. Having sat on both sides of the table as a third party contract auditor and also as a consultant at a public accounting firm, Gary has worked alongside and on the behalf of state unclaimed property administrators.
During his tenure as Audit Manager and Program Leader, Gary built upon his expertise while he was tasked with overseeing of hundreds of multi-state examinations. Although the accounting firm by which he was employed primarily focused on unclaimed property holders in the Financial Services and Oil & Gas sectors, Gary gained firsthand experience with unclaimed property audits as he became involved in examinations of some of the largest entities in the Healthcare, Construction, and Manufacturing industries.
As a consultant, Gary served as a subject matter expert primarily for unclaimed property holders in the Southwestern United States. His services to his clients consisted of advocating for them during audit examinations, assisting with their entrance into state voluntary compliance programs, and working with them to establish initial compliance with the states. Gary also worked with organizations to provide guidance for maintaining compliance going forward.
Gary’s professional background in its entirety is as equally notable as his broad range of audit experience. In the ten years he has built his career as a consultant and auditor, Gary fulfilled the necessary requirements to become a Certified Internal Auditor, and also earned his Masters in Business Administration from Colorado Technical University. Prior to his introduction to tax audit and compliance, Gary dedicated 12 years of service to the United States Army and National Guard as a Supply and Logistics Sergeant, for which he has earned veteran status.
In addition to earning his MBA, Gary also holds a Bachelors of Science degree in Accounting and Finance from Northeastern University. He is an active member of the Institute of Internal Auditors (“IIA”) as well as UPPO, NADOA, HADOA, and NALTA.
